Getting Lucky Lodge
The Australian trio of Nigel, Norm, and Dave discovered Digitaldowns in 2005 and began their own separate journeys as trainers. Nigel, a real life thoroughbred trainer and shift worker in Alice Springs Australia started Getting Lucky Lodge "The stable was named after the greatest real life horse I have ever had, Getting Lucky won 13 of her 30 starts, still holds the 5F Track Record here in Alice at 55.84, was the first horse to break 1:08 for 6F in Darwin, and also won in Melbourne at Caulfield racecourse."
Several years later, Nigel and Norm combined forces to be run as a partnership and worked well together, "The early days were a tough learning experience, but we slowly became better and better at placing our horses in their right class, and improved our breeding stock." They added the legendary racehorse and sire PENSION PLAN via private purchase to breed many of the great champions they conditioned over the years. "My favorite memory would be when Norm and I purchased Pension Plan from Gunner stables, at the time, it was the most expensive purchase in the game’s history, and Pension Plan is undoubtedly the greatest horse/sire the game has seen."
The success GLL enjoyed through the years as a solo act and partnership is staggering. As of this writing, GLL has the record for all-time wins with a jaw-dropping 4,213 wins with a superb win percentage of 16.78%. They currently sit in 2nd in all-time earnings with 59 Million plus (in credits) They went on to win a record 9 Trainer of the Year awards, including 5 in a row in seasons 14-18 and a dominating run 7 of 8 during that time.
Off the track they were both influential in shaping and improving how the game is played. Authoring the invaluable Inside Edge, Jockey Instruction, and Claiming articles in the Help for New Members section. They've run countless fun contests for free breeds or sponsored added money races for the benefit of the community. Norm's advice and mentoring can be referenced by new and veteran stables alike and was how this writer got his "leg up" on his own journey on the track.
"Being inducted into the Hall of fame is a great honor, I have been to Churchill Downs 3 times to attend a DD get together, i can honestly say each time has been great, and the people who play this game are a great bunch. Some lifelong friends have been made out of an online game and that's pretty cool I think.”Thank you DigitalDowns, all the best! Nigel (Trainer) Boris (game’s greatest ladies’ man!) Norm (great ideas man and legendary DD trainer) Kelly (the fog is in the house!
Congratulations to Getting Lucky Lodge on this momentous achievement!
It requires diligent planning and conditioning by the trainer to get a horse prepared to run his best race at the right time. No one was better at this then Rory of Ryan Express, the quiet genius at work, he methodically studied the training meters to perfect how to condition his horses to their peak ability. He later pioneered the way virtual horses are managed and trained with the publishing of the Newbie Guides I, II, and III on the Help for New Members forum. These articles have withstood the test of time and remain a valuable resource and guide for new and veteran players alike.
The all-time leader in earnings at almost 61 million (game credits) is currently second all-time in wins. As of this writing Ryan Express has won 4,138 races with a remarkable 23.85% win percentage! Rory’s placement of horses and mastery of the jockey instructions have gone unparalleled for years. He would go on to win three Trainer of the Year titles in Seasons 9, 10, and 11, winning countless added money stake races in the process.
The well-respected veteran conditioner would occasionally share his insight to new and veteran trainers by posting his comprehensive race data analysis on the member forums so others could learn and understand patterns of events.
The extraordinary career of Ryan Express has shaped our vision of greatness and personifies what we mean when we say legend.
Congratulations to Rory on his induction into the Digitaldowns Hall of Fame.
The DD version of the racing form and ability to claim horses was Gary's lure to DD. His real life experiences in horse racing began with him going to the track as a teenager before he got his owner's license in 1981. From 1981 - 2003 he owned between 70-80 real horses solely or in 50% partnership. In January 2008 Gary was first introduced to digitaldowns.us by fellow member Erb Stables. Although, he was never into internet gaming, he noticed some of the same aspects of the real game were right here online.
By July of 2008 he had already amassed 1 million in career earnings and was fast on his way to a HOF career. Gary attributes most of his success from his approach and his real life experiences "I tried to apply real life racing with DD as much as possible, but learned that some phases are applicable and some were not. Learning the economics of the game seemed to be one of my bigger assets, so that was my primary focus. It became an enjoyable hobby that allowed me to interact with many wonderful people from all across the world. Running a successful stable took many hours of research, and accepting the ups and downs with the game was a daily challenge. As in a real life racing, good common sense and patience were keys to winning races."
Primarily known as a claiming stable, his uncanny ability to find value and unlocking a horse's true ability were unmatched. Whether it was a fellow trainer attempting to sneak a good horse through the claim box or a hopeless castoff, he seemed to have all the answers after the claim was dropped. This approach to the game has proven to be quite fruitful for Gary, as of this writing he has won 3,755 races with a gaudy 21.85% lifetime win percentage.
Aquaman's Stables success hasn't only been about claiming horses or running them back for more then he claimed them for. The back-to-back Trainer of the Year in seasons 22 and 23 also brings his A Game when the big money is on the line during the stakes program. "One of my favorite memories with DD was the end of season stakes day that was run on the last day of the meet on August 31st, 2010. Eight stake races were scheduled that day, and I had an entry in 4 of them. All 4 horses won in consecutive races, and I won a total of 9 races of the 16 entries on the card. Being strictly a claiming outfit, winning 4 added money races was a great thrill."
A valued and respected member of the Digitaldowns community for a long time, Gary has also been an influential voice in improving the game by sharing his thoughts and veteran insight. Over the years he's developed many friendships with fellow members, thoughts not lost on the HOF conditioner, "Playing this game with people like Nigel and Norm with Getting Luck Lodge, Rory with Ryan Express, Burky with Star of the Desert, Russ with Sparc Stables, Shane with Polaris Bloodstock, Al with Falcon Oaks, Pete with Cannorth Stables, Jamie with Aardvark Stables, Kelly with Fog City Stables, Brian with various former stables, currently Cold Dog Soup Stables, and my good friend "Woody" from Woodville Stables, along with many, many others made this site respectful, competitive, and very enjoyable. Norm, now with Trunoble Lodge, was always a big asset to DD to help and encourage new players, and always shared a wealth of information with the membership. He was one of my biggest rivals on the track, but he was someone who I respected more than anyone who ever competed here."
I later asked Gary what it means to be inducted into the Digitaldowns HOF, "It is an honor for me to be included with Getting Lucky Lodge and Ryan Express as inductees into the Digital Downs Hall of Fame. I would like to thank the site owners Bob and Freddie for making this possible."
Congratulations to Gary on his induction to the Digitaldowns Hall of Fame!
The brilliant 6 YO race mare and homebred of top digitaldowns.us conditioner Eddie of TaylorandTaryn began her long and illustrious career in January of 2014 less than a month since Eddie began his digitaldowns.us journey as a trainer. “It all started with my first eliminator series (now the Maiden Shotgun Series) I had been here less than a month and I had bred her brother (full sib) TARYNSXMASPRESENT. He won his first round of the eliminator running a 100 speed figure. As soon as the race was over I went to the breeder page as both sire and mare were on it and bred her.” Eddie recalled. Several bullet works later her HOF career began with a bang, taking a 9F MSW event in wire to wire fashion in only her 2nd career start. Most impressive about the victory was the way the young filly did it. The daughter of FLOYD set a blistering pace that day, dictating the pace through splits of 46.09 1:10.55 and finished in dazzling 1:48.51 earning a 99 speed rating. The rest they say was history.
As consistent and brilliant as they come, this terrific race mare danced every dance on her way to recording 30 wins, 25 places, and 21 shows (as of this writing) for a superb 52% ITM percentage and a 20% win clip against the best of the best, season after season. Sprinting or Routing she’s had a nose for the wire having won races as short as 5F and as long as 12F. Her workman like performance each and every time has her set to break the all-time earning list soon, as she also creeps ever closer to capturing the all-time runs milestone of 153.
This writer’s fondest memory of her career came in the USA Cup in her 3 YO season (now Red Rose Oaks) the 3rd and final leg of the digitaldowns.us Triple Crown. Taken back early and under a snug hold from world class jockey J. Krone the TNT homebred, uncoiled an Azeri-like performance, circling the field on the outside picking off rivals down the lane on her way to a world and stakes record of 2:31.33 that still stands today. Her Season 29 Champion trainer also holds this race as the defining moment of her HOF career saying “My favorite race of hers was the 1 ½ mile Triple Crown Race in her three year old year. She drew the 11 hole and as I watched the race, I was just amazed at her run around the whole field to win by open lengths and set the track record.” Every year she’s been able to make the final in all 3 divisions of the champ series. Sprints, Classics, or Routes she was always there, and will always be a horse I think of when I think of HOF champions.
The regally bred son of LUNAR FLY ended his career as the all-time leader in career earnings just shy of 1.5 million (in credits). He boasts a staggering 38% career win percentage and an all-world 71% ITM from 106 runs! There were few times this HOF failed to fire on the race track.
The multiple stakes winner impressed as a juvenile capturing the prestigious Eliminator Final. His dominance continued at 3 with a brilliant victory in the 50K added Pension Plan, earning a 100 speed figure in the process. As the distances increased and the seasons went by, this race warrior continued his winning ways to a HOF worthy career.
Corn Beef Hash
The speedy millionaire gelding currently sits in 3rd place on the all-time list in career earnings as well as being the sole leader in career runs with a staggering 152! Primarily campaigned as a sprinter the speedy create wasn’t always at the top of his game and was claimed for the rock bottom price of 2Kc TWICE! As he changed barns so did his results on the track. He won the prestigious Super Star Sprint Series final (now run as the champ series) along with several other big races on his way to whopping 53 career scores, 2nd only to BILLY’S ROYAL PLAN for wins.
Additionally, on his long journey to a HOF career he set several track records in the process and was awarded several 100 pt speed figures. With his longevity and nose for the wire on the biggest of stages we welcome CORN BEEF HASH to the HOF!
The multiple stakes winning millionaire gelding is best known for winning the richest race in digitaldowns.us history by taking the High Roller Stakes Final and winning the lion’s share of the 1 million credit purse (500Kc) to pad his already lofty bankroll! The 29 time winner was a versatile sprinter, who successfully stretched when asked also winning the 9F 20Kc Added Big Timer Stakes over the turf. He finished his career with an impressive 30% strike rate and a career 97 speed figure. We welcome the “Champ” to the HOF!
The closest thing to perfection the game has ever experienced in a racehorse remains the standard by which all virtual horses are measured. The once in a lifetime race mare defied what most would consider to be of modest lineage into a legendary race and broodmare career.
As a juvenile she ripped off 7 straight wins using her incredible speed and power and closed the season undefeated and still untested. She would continue on her “tour-de-horse” winning most every race she was entered for the rest of her career for a jaw-dropping 75% win percentage and an eye-popping 93% ITM rate.
Her legacy would continue on in the breeding shed, where she would foal two of the most influential sires in the game in COLONEL TROLL (8Kc earnings per race) and KILLED TO DEATH (4.5K earnings per race) who would pass on their mother’s brilliance to their offspring in hopes of one day seeing another just like her. We continue to wait.
